When to Choose Machined Chemical-Resistant Plastics

01

Low-to-medium volumes where molding is not economical

02

Prototyping and design validation before tooling

03

Complex geometries, tight tolerances, or post-mold machining

04

Replacement parts for legacy or obsolete equipment

05

Material upgrades for heat, chemical, friction, or stability issues

06

Cost or lead-time pressure with current suppliers

Materials for Chemical Resistance

Selection depends on concentration, temperature, exposure time, and loading. We help you validate the right choice.

PTFE

Outstanding chemical inertness, low friction. Use for seals, seats, gaskets. Note: low stiffness, high creep.

PEEK

Excellent chemical resistance, high temperature, great strength. Ideal for high-load, high-heat components.

PVDF

Strong resistance to acids, chlorine, halogens. Common in chemical-processing and semiconductor tooling.

PPS

Broad chemical resistance, high-temperature, good stability. Used in pump and valve internals.

PSU / PPSU / PEI

High-performance amorphous polymers with good chemical and heat resistance, toughness, clarity options.

UHMW-PE / HDPE

Good chemical resistance, excellent abrasion (UHMW-PE). Limited high-temperature capability.

POM / Acetal

Good fuel/solvent resistance, excellent machinability. Avoid strong acids and oxidizers.

Filled & Reinforced

Glass, carbon, or mineral-filled PTFE/PVDF for improved stiffness, wear, or antistatic/conductive properties.

Also machine: Nylon, ABS, PC, PMMA, PET, PBT, PAI, and specialized antistatic/conductive/flame-retardant grades.

Typical Chemically Resistant Components

  • Pump and valve components: seats, cages, impellers, discs, bodies
  • Sealing and wear parts: bushings, bearings, wear rings, thrust washers
  • Fluid-handling fittings: manifolds, nozzles, couplings, unions, adapters
  • Chemical-processing parts: spacers, insulators, rollers, liners, shields
  • Semiconductor/clean-process: PVDF/PTFE fixtures, carriers, wet-process tooling
  • Lab/medical: holders, racks, supports, instrument components

CNC Machining Capabilities

  • CNC Milling: 3-axis & multi-face for complex profiles, pockets, channels
  • CNC Turning: Precision features, grooves, threads for seats, bushings, rings
  • Drilling/Tapping: Metric/imperial, NPT/BSPT, UN/ACME; thread relief and runout control
  • Finishing: Deburring, chamfering, counterboring, laser/ink marking
  • Inserts: Press-fit, heat-set, helicoils where compatible
  • Envelope: small precision parts to medium housings. Send your max dimensions for feasibility.

Tolerances, Finish & Quality

Tolerances: ±0.05 mm (±0.002 in) on well-supported features; tighter achievable depending on material and geometry.

Surface Finish: Ra 1.6–3.2 µm typical for machined plastics; finer finishes and optical polishing available for select materials.

Stability: We account for creep, thermal expansion, and moisture uptake — especially in chemical/temperature cycling environments.

Inspection: First Article Inspection (FAI), dimensional reports, material certificates, lot traceability, custom packaging.

Design-for-Machining Guidance

  • Avoid excessive thin walls; select radii to minimize stress concentration
  • Use PTFE/PEEK for wetted threads; specify seal geometry (chamfers, O-ring glands)
  • Metal inserts or helical coils for repeated assembly; validate temp/chemical compatibility
  • Allow reasonable tolerance tiers for non-critical areas to manage cost
  • Specify edge breaks and surface finishes that reduce stress risers and chemical attack
