Why Choose PTFE

🧪

Exceptional chemical resistance

Non-wetting surface, resistant to almost all chemicals and solvents.

🌡️

Broad temperature range

From cryogenic to elevated temperatures with stable performance.

🔄

Very low friction

Non-stick behavior, ideal for seals, bearings, and sliding surfaces.

Excellent dielectric properties

High dielectric strength and insulation, suitable for electronics.

🧱

Wear performance with fills

Glass, carbon, graphite or bronze filled grades improve wear resistance.

💧

Low moisture absorption

Excellent weathering resistance, stable in humid environments.

Note: PTFE exhibits high thermal expansion and cold flow (creep). Proper design, material selection, and tolerance strategy are essential to achieve stable performance.

PTFE CNC Machining Capabilities

Processes

  • CNC milling (multi-axis), CNC turning, drilling, tapping, threading
  • Counterboring, counter-sinking, slotting, contouring
  • Complex custom machining for prototypes, fixtures, and production parts

Part size range

Small to medium-sized components (from miniature features up to several hundred millimeters), depending on geometry and tolerance needs.

Typical tolerances

  • General: ±0.05–0.10 mm for many geometries in virgin PTFE
  • Tighter features possible case-by-case with design optimization
  • Filled grades often enable slightly better stability

Surface finish

Turning and milling finishes typically Ra 0.8–3.2 μm. Fine finishing, polishing, and controlled deburring available.

Deburring and edge quality

Mechanical deburring and controlled edge breaks to remove feathering. Cryogenic deburring available on request.

Secondary operations

Press-fit or adhesive-bonded metallic inserts, laser/ink marking, assembly, and packaging per customer specification.

PTFE Grades We Machine

Design and Tolerance Guidelines for PTFE

Tolerances and stability

  • PTFE’s high thermal expansion and creep can make very tight tolerances unstable over time
  • Consider functional tolerances of ±0.05–0.10 mm where possible; discuss tighter features early
  • Use GD&T to control critical features (e.g., runout, concentricity) relative to functional datums

Wall thickness and geometry

  • Avoid very thin walls (<1.5 mm) and knife edges; add generous fillets and radii
  • For thin sections or tall features, consider filled grades to improve stiffness

Threads and fasteners

  • Prefer coarse threads, rounded roots/crests, and generous runouts/reliefs
  • Consider metallic inserts (knurled/serrated) for repeated assembly; evaluate pull-out/torque

Flatness and deformation

  • Large flat surfaces are prone to warp; design with ribs or add functional relief
  • Thermal conditioning/annealing before and/or after machining can improve stability
